Jesus asked His first disciples a penetrating question: “What do you want?” (John 1:37-38). Everyone who would follow Jesus must consider this question. Why are we following Jesus? What do we want from Him? That question can only be truly answered by understanding one of Jesus final questions to His disciples : “Do you understand what I have done for you?”
(more…)Serving others is the ultimate expression of our love. Jesus teaches us that love for God and love for others are the foundational and key commandments, they are the very heart of the Lord’s wise instruction to us. Following Jesus means learning to serve in love as He Himself serves us all.

…train yourself for godliness. For ‘physical exercise has some value, but godliness is valuable in every way. It holds promise for the present life and for the life to come.
Learning to Hear and See the Father working in Christ through the Spirit and responding in Prayer and self-sacrificial Service are three foundational exercises that enable us to resist being conformed to the World and transformed by the renewing of our minds. This week, we will be considering 3 foundational exercises that help us live like Jesus.

As we think on these things, the words that Jesus speaks from The Cross give us insight into what He experienced and what He accomplished for us.
(more…)On May 19th Tim Keller passed into the Lord’s presence. Almost immediately and appropriately, articles and remembrances were posted honoring his life and work, the size and scope of which cannot be denied. Just a day before, our dear brother Phil Allen also “graduated” into the Lord’s Presence on May 18th. There will be no articles written in Christianity Today about Phil. But his life is a reminder that size of service is not of first importance to the Lord. What really matters is faithfulness.
(more…)The order and readings for the Passover celebration are called a Haggadah and it means “the telling.” Passover is a story that has been retold for thousands of years. It is a story of miraculous redemption – from slavery to freedom, from despair to hope, from the darkness to the light. The power and grace of the Lord God is the focus of this story. The timelessness of this story comes from God’s intimate relationship with His people. As He cared for the children of Israel in ancient times, He also cares for all who are His today.
