We cannot fight our battles on our own. We are called to share our burdens and struggles with our other brothers and sisters in Christ. Jesus has already given us the victory and everything we need to persevere together until we see Him.

Today we continue our discussion of the Armor that God has given to us to stand firm against the attack of our external enemy,—Satan who is at work in the World. As we heard yesterday, the last three items—the shield of faith, the helmet of Salvation and the Sword of the Spirit and are all things that we are to take up in all circumstances. These last three are critical pieces of our armor.

Today, we begin looking at the six pieces of our Spiritual Armor and their significance in our life. As we discuss these pieces, we are going to talk about two aspects of their blessing. There is an objective reality in this armor—Father God has done something to us, given something to us. There is also a subjective reality—We should do something with these pieces of armor. Simply stated, Father God has blessed us with these things and now we must put them to good use.

…take up the full armor of God so that you may be able to stand your ground on the evil day, and having done everything, to stand.”
Father God has made provisions for us to stand firm against the attacks of our external enemy—The Devil—who is at work in the World. We stand firm by “putting on” and living in the reality of our new identity in Christ.

The Scriptures indicate that every human being is born spiritually dead, hostile to God and enslaved to the power of sin by nature. In the Rebellion and Fall of Adam, two terrible things happened to us: 1) We have each been declared guilty before God because of Adam’s sinful “vote” on our behalf, and 2) We have each inherited the corruption of sin that has marred our ability to think and act in a godly way. Understanding who we are “in Adam” is the first step in comprehending how Christ has set us free and empowered us to live an entirely new KIND of life.

We face two powerful spiritual enemies: 1) The Adversary who is at work in the world and 2) The Sin that still lives in our Flesh. We need to be AWARE and AWAKE to the reality of these ever present enemies.
